Münster Schruns

The parish church in Schruns has been elevated to the status of a cathedral. To be eligible for this elevation, various criteria must be met. The spiritual significance of a church for a region is one of them. "The parish church in Schruns is of great significance to the religious life of the region. This fact is reflected in its elevation to the status of a cathedral church,” says Bishop Benno Elbs. The elevation to the status of a cathedral church is linked to the hope that the parish church in Schruns will become another important center of spiritual and pastoral life in Vorarlberg.

The church was built in 1865. It houses Neo-Romanesque altars, paintings in the Nazarene style, and numerous works (on both sides of the high altar and on the choir ceiling) by Franz and Jakob Bertle of the Bertle family of painters from Schruns. Hans Bertle (son of Jakob Bertle) created five ceiling paintings in the nave and the medallions above the windows. The carpenter Anton Bertle and the sculptor Ignaz Bertle were responsible for crafting the pulpit.
