The history of mining in the Montafon

St. Agatha Miners’ Chapel is the oldest church in the Montafon and has the mining industry to thank for its construction. Further witnesses of this time are the accident shaft, which can still be clearly seen in the church, the Bruderhüsli (or Brothers’ House) in the Dalaas forest, and the historic Bartholomäberg mine. The Montafon-Klostertal mining area was the largest anywhere in the province of Vorarlberg at that time.

Alongside its beautiful historic district, Feldkirch offers the opportunity to visit Schattenburg (old castle with a castle museum) or the Vorarlberg Wildpark, where you can experience Alpine animals such as wild boars, ibex, deer, roe deer, chamois, wolves, eagles, ... up close and in-person.
