Bergkirche Gargellen | HNr. 39 | 6787 Gargellen
The church was built between 1611 and 1617. It was damaged in 1622 during the invasion of the Prättigau people and after its repair was finally consecrated by Bishop Johann VI. in 1644. In 1791 and 1792, the parish church was enlarged; one year later, the church tower was finally rebuilt to old specifications. The church was renovated inside and outside in 1980 and 1981.
The roof construction, the shingles and the church entrance were renovated in 1999. In addition, the walls were reinforced and internal and external renovations carried out. During this renovation, an overpainted, but relatively well preserved fresco from the 18th century was discovered on the ceiling vault above the high altar. This fresco was restored through a masterful piece of restoration.
